Dr Hu graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 1997 with Honours. He completed specialist training in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Management in Ireland, followed by a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin and the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. In 2009, he was appointed Consultant Specialist in Pain Medicine at Tallaght University Hospital, Dublin. He was elected to the Board of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland in 2013 and served as Chair of Examinations until 2018.

Dr Hu serves as Supervisor of Training for Pain Medicine trainees at Tallaght University Hospital and is currently Director of Neuromodulation. He has contributed to Pain Medicine training and examination at a national level through the Faculty of Pain Medicine.
