Clinical Standards, Governance and Scope

The service provides consultant-led assessment and management of chronic and complex pain. Referrals are reviewed to ensure the service is suitable, so patients receive the right care in the right setting.

For Patients

Rapid Contact and Scheduling
Following referral, patients are contacted promptly by our team to arrange their initial appointment, typically within five working days.

Consultant Assessment
At their first appointment, patients undergo a full consultant-led assessment, including clinical history, examination and review of any relevant investigations.

Defined Treatment Plan
A clear, structured treatment plan is established following assessment, with discussion of appropriate options – including intervention, physiotherapy or further diagnostics where required.

Managed Pathway
All subsequent appointments, procedures and therapies are arranged directly by our team, ensuring continuity and minimising delays at each stage of care.

Clinical Updates
You will receive clear, prompt correspondence following key stages of care, including assessment outcomes and details of any interventions performed.

For GPs

Referral Pathway

Carelink Health supports GPs to help manage patients with chronic or complex pain who require specialist assessment and consultant-led input.

The service is appropriate for patients aged 16 and over with persistent musculoskeletal or related pain that is difficult to manage in primary care. It is not intended for acute or red-flag presentations.

What to expect

All referrals are triaged on receipt, with patients contacted promptly and appointments typically available within five working days.
